What do we do at the Alchemy of Yoga School? Take a peek at our program!

What Kind of Yoga do we Teach? We prepare students to teach inteligent vinyasa mindfully sequenced with an empahsis on breath, meditation, poses and a philosophical theme, which serves as the intention of the class. The Four Keys to Happiness

In the Yoga Sutra’s Chapter 1.33, Pantanjali gives us a four-part process to help us clear our hearts of negative energies as a means for quieting our minds. These are known as the Four Keys to Happiness. So what are we unlocking, that’s in the way of our joy? The Four Locks are the four kinds of people that we encounter in life: Happy people (sukha), Unhappy people (dukha), Honorable people (punya) and Malicious people (apunya). The Yogic model proposes that in order to access these four keys we must nurture these attitudes: 1. Maitri (friendliness): Kindness and friendliness to those who are happy. Instead of being jealous we should be happy for other people’s happiness. Rather than living with mental scarcity thinking one person’s happiness will cause us to…

Moving? Here’s How To Let Things GO

I was speaking to a friend who is moving, and since I did so not long ago, she asked my advice on how to prepare. First, I explained a spiritual concept I applied to letting go in preparation to make the big move. Vairagya is the sanskrit word for letting go, or relinquishing attachment to what actions we’ve already taken directly or indirectly. It means that by letting go of the past, we create space for right now, and empower our future intentions. Each year nature provides an excellent reminder because she shows us that everything changes and comes to its natural end. The leaves fall, nights get longer, days shorter. There is an inevitable ending to the year where we look back and recognize all that we got done…

3 Reasons to Be Kind

By Silvia Mordini “Kindness is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Maybe if we treat each other, and our planet a little better, we can survive, even thrive.”   When giving a lecture near the end of his life, author Aldous Huxley said, “People often ask me what is the most effective technique for transforming their life. It is a little embarrassing that after years and years of research and experimentation, I have to say that the best answers is – just be a little kinder.”   Kindness requires less energy. Grudges are draining because they feed distracted energy which becomes wasted in worry, resentment, suspicion and criticism. If we call our energy back to us by being a little kinder self-transformation happens faster. Most of all self-kindness will change…

The Importance of Community in Yoga

By: Silvia Mordini, Featured on DoYouYoga My favorite part of yoga is community — the coming together of humans of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, ages, interests to share the same experience. That’s why I go back everyday as a teacher and as a student. Science tells us that being in a healthy community is good for us. The vibration of positive-minded people raises our vibrational frequency, and this shared joy elevates our spirits. This is talked about in Yoga Sutra Chapter 2.33 Pratipaksha Bhavana. Essentially, the sutras spell out that if we are imbalanced mentally, physically, or emotionally, then we are not living our true nature which is joy. Therefore, engaging with others trying to think happy thoughts helps us create happy thoughts as well. Positive energy creates and attracts more positive energy! Community…

Choosing a Yoga School

By: Silvia Mordini If you are asking yourself if you should pursue a teacher training program, you have already started down the path of beginning the most important dialogue of your life. The opening verse of the first chapter of the Yoga Sutras presents the opportunity, “And now begins the study of yoga…” This opening line implies that only once you are ready to be a dedicated student of Yoga, you actually begin your studies. No one else can decide that for you. As teachers, we never drag a student across the threshold of initiation. The old adage, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear,” applies here. The student must step towards the teacher. You must voluntarily apply yourself to meet this challenge. Upon choosing a yoga school,…

Step Into the Light of Your Integrity

Satya — the second Yama of the Yoga Sutras — asks for truth + integrity while remaining rooted in love + compassion. The heart of yoga is unity amongst ourselves and all living things. When we are not truthful, we create a palpable separation from the self + others — whereas when we express ourselves in alignment with truth, we feel an easeful connection to the universal flow — and everyone around us feels it too. Rooted in ourselves — our feelings, thoughts, words, and actions soften + become more heart-centered. We express inwardly + outwardly with graceful compassion — all the while connected to + intuitively guided by the liberating flow. In standing in the light of integrity, we encourage others to do so as well. The individual expression…
