MORE Reasons for Women to Travel Solo

By Silvia Mordini For quite some time now I’ve come up with all sorts of excuses why I couldn’t travel by myself: 1. My partner didn’t like to travel and I didn’t want to go without him 2. The guilt of leaving my partner and family behind 3. Not feeling worthy of the extra pampering and expense 4. Traveling alone felt selfish and undeserved 5. The fear of being alone. Even after all the years of yoga, meditation, and being on the mat on my own I was still afraid. In today’s society you can freely admit plenty of shocking things aloud but saying you’re lonely silences the room. People feel a mix of worry and pity toward you. Rarely do friends or colleagues know the appropriate way to respond…

Find Compassion for All Yogis

“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” Dalai Lama I’ve practiced yoga for over 15 years. I’ve taught more than 12,000 hours and since my very first teacher training, my goal has always been to teach what I practice and to practice what I teach. Through the years of practicing with different teachers, it has become clear to me that creating a compassionate yoga community requires that we take responsibility for ourselves. After all, our actions, thoughts and words impact the connections we have with those around us: just as positive energy creates more positive energy, the inverse is also true. Our bigger American Yoga Kula is strong in love but we diminish our power by publicly degrading other styles…

SPRING Forward into New Beginnings

By Silvia Mordini Spring is quickly coming, starting March 20, 2019. On this day in the Northern Hemisphere, we have 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night. Winter’s shadow moves on. Even so, a lingering bit of heaviness may remain, like the spring jacket you wear or the tiredness you feel in the air. It’s okay to acknowledge the darkness of Winter and see it as the fertilizer making our souls more fertile for the new beginnings of Spring. This seasonal transition serves as a reminder that we can only make new beginnings to the extent we appreciate the endings in our lives. To make a big change and begin again isn’t always popular. As you change yourself, your energy towards those around you changes, and if they…

Alchemy of Beauty from the Inside Out

I am devoted to teaching women how empowerment comes from nurturance, not from trying harder and doing more. When gentleness from ourselves to ourselves hardens we in turn appear that way in outer form. In other words, beauty comes from the inside out. And the kind of relationship we are having with ourselves on the inside will be evident on the outside. Right now is an opportunity to reclaim your right to appreciate yourself and treat your body as the sacred living temple that it is. In the words of Derek Walcott, “The time will come When with elation, You will greet yourself arriving At your own door, in your own mirror, And each will smile at the other’s welcome, And say, sit here. Eat. You will love again the…

Monday Morning Mantra: I’m Empowered to Appreciate My Life

By: Silvia Mordini, Featured on Yoganonymous.com What if everything you wanted came true? Could you handle it, would you accept it, how would you know it’s real. Are you still so skeptical that when what you want is being handed to you, you still don’t know how to be with so much grace? The greatest fear is not of what we don’t have or of suffering or pain but of actually receiving what we desire. It is a fear of happiness. Read the full article here on Yoganonymous.
