Most importantly through personal experience she knows it’s possible to transform your trauma to dharma and transmute your drama to dreams.
I have always been drawn to encouraging others to see their full potential and have instilled this philosophy into my life’s work. I received my BA in Psychology at Western Washington University and over the past 10 years have worked in various areas of counseling; crisis lines, youth suicide prevention, yoga, sexual assault, and domestic violence advocacy. I was always so focused on others, yoga became my time to focus on me. Once I started to regularly attend classes, I noticed a dramatic enhancement of my self-esteem, happiness, and relationships.
I completed my RYT-200 instructor training with Alchemy Yoga in 2013 with the incredible happiness seeker, Silvia Mordini. My love of movement is revealed in every class, along with encouraging students to cut out all the distractions of life and bring their minds to stillness. I design each class to embody truth, simplicity and love to inspire students to let their light shine on and off of the mat.
My name is Emily Perry, MTOM, L.Ac., E-RYT-500. I am a Yoga Teacher, Acupuncturist, & Herbalist based in Santa Cruz, California. A student of yoga and meditation since 1994, and of Chinese Medicine since 2000, I teach Vinyasa Flow Yoga, mindfulness and Holistic Health. As often as I can, I study with my teachers Janet Stone, Jody Greene, Christopher Wallis, and Christina Sell in the vinyasa flow tradition.
I discovered yoga in college, around the same time I started practicing Zen meditation. I dove into a book called “Light on Yoga,” and I found it to be an amazing manual for living a joyful, healthy, peaceful life. I was hooked. During that same time I began studying herbalism with Native American healers, and soon found a calling to study Chinese Medicine and holistic health. Eventually, when I returned to Los Angeles, I dove into vinyasa flow yoga during its early stages, and it has been my favorite yoga style ever since. Yoga has fueled my passion for living, and over the years, as I started a family and a business, yoga has always been my home base, my refuge. Practice brings me joy, peace and strength, and you can often find me on my mat when I am not out surfing with the kids, hiking in the redwoods with the dog, or at home cooking plant-based meals. I also teach workshops, retreats and trainings around the world.
I went to my first yoga class more than 10 years ago seeking solace from a stressful engineering job. Many breaths and years later, my focus has shifted to learning, loving and living the practice of yoga. The more I scratch the surface, the more this practice lays out before me as I discover it is so much more than shapes.
I am a travel enthusiast, student of life, and above all else, a believer in love. In all forms, in all ways, love is at the heart of healing. It is the message that breathes life into every teaching and yet it is unassuming its simplicity. It was a great love that initially led me to yoga several years ago and it was a committed personal practice sparked inside me a desire to serve. Now, I am blessed to be a teacher, though I consider myself a student first, always. Sharing this practice has brought so much joy into my world and I feel completely privileged to connect with human heartbeats on a regular basis.
My ultimate goal in offering the practice is to elevate on a cellular level, stirring up creative energy that ripples long after the asana practice. It is this residual vibration that has kept me coming back again and again and I feel a sacred responsibility as I share it with others. I believe we can find sanctuary inside the four corners of a mat or any place where we choose to drop into the state of yoga – the union of mind, body and heart. Yoga is about self-observation, self-study, and self-awakening. Something I learned very early on is, teaching yoga has nothing to do with me. It’s all about giving people a place and a practice where they can go inside, excavate through physical embodiment anything needing attention and eventually experience more freedom.
I am immensely grateful for so many teachers I have learned from on this path, primarily from the Krishnamacharya lineage and drawing from the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, Tantra and Somatics. I completed my first teacher training with Silvia Mordini and have continued studying on the evolutionary path ever since. While living in Japan, I had the good fortune of learning from a host of inspiring yogis including Christina Sell, Kino MacGregor, Kathryn Budig, Simon Park, Elizabeth Rossa, Chuck Miller and Gloria Latham. Most recently, I completed several immersion trainings with Shiva Rea in Venice, Costa Rica, and India to become certified in teaching Prana Vinyasa Yoga. I embrace the abundance that is available in our present day global yoga community and jump at the opportunity to learn through live transmission whenever I can.
The physicality of yoga first caught my attention as a graduate student five years ago. Overwhelmed by the stress and pressure that I had mistakenly confused as my baseline state of being, I was desperately seeking a way to disconnect. I distinctly remember the feeling that came over me in my first yoga class when I realized that yoga was not allowing me the opportunity to disconnect, but rather reconnect. In that place, I find stillness and calm. No matter what comes up, yoga allows a process of clarifying, distilling, and cleansing by providing a platform to tune into thoughts, feelings, processes, and patterns. The more I listen, the more I continue to unearth, embrace, and express my true self. Yoga smoothes my hard edges and re-directs me toward an internal still point. In The Secret Power of Yoga, Nischala Joy Devi embodies the essence of yoga in her interpretation of yoga sutras 1.2 and 1.3. She writes, “Yoga is the uniting of consciousness in the heart. United in the heart, consciousness is steadied, then we abide in our true nature — joy.” Although yoga continues as a personal practice, the evolution inspires me to share what I learn in an intentional, creative, and heartfelt way through a softening Yin / Yin + Hatha fusion rooted in safety and sustainability.
Sarah’s Heartfelt Vision: I see the eight-limbed yoga path as a journey toward re-kindling the connection to the true self, as many of us have strayed from our intuitive wisdom as a byproduct of our busy lives. For many – myself included – asana is the first step back on the path. Yoga helps us understand how to maintain balance in our lives by increasing awareness of our sensitivities and constantly fine-tuning as we return to our own internal compass. In doing so, we are able to dissolve the patterns, stories, and behaviors that are non-serving so that we may approach life with more vitality and do what we really want to do. As yoga brings you closer to you, it changes not only your relationship to self, but also relationships with the world around you. The practice allows us to re-visit this process continuously – pose by pose, layer by layer. The most exciting part is that the work is never done.
I am a lover of movement. Movement in the body, transformation of the mind, and evolution of the spirit. I aspire to help students listen to Satguru, their inner teacher. My teaching style is building heat from the inside and bringing students out of their head and into their breath. The foundation of my teaching is balance between strength and flexibility on and off the mat.
I seek to share each of yoga’s eight limbs with students to guide them to deeper awareness of the self. When we learn to know and love our complete being, we are more free to embrace the opportunity for change, growth and well being. Through movement of energy in the body I strive to open my students to new possibilities, on and off the mat.
I love to combine my passions for yoga, art, and writing. I graduated from Seattle Central Creative Academy in 2011 with a degree in commercial photography; I love creating portraits, videos, and other media with yoga as my subject. I love all styles of yoga and flowing to loud beats. I practice and teach power vinyasa at a studio and falling on my face daily on my mat at home.
I am a free spirited lover of travel, nature, a good book, delicious and healthy food (and lots of it!) and of course an ooey gooey vinyasa flow. I love a good belly laugh and my playful attitude inspires me to incorporate Lila, Divine Play, into my yoga practice and life. I first started practicing yoga with devotion when I moved from Australia to London in an attempt to run away from my problems. Through my yoga practice I realised that the only way to happiness is inwards. The physical practice of yoga opened the rusty gates to my emotional state, guiding me inwards while peeling back layer, after layer of false beliefs, guiding me back to my truth.
Currently I am traveling about the world, finding new places to live, to learn and to grow. Right now I am wandering about the beautiful continent of Central America with all my belongings on my back, sharing yoga wherever and whenever I can. Through sharing yoga and my passion for writing I aspire to guide students within, to discover that happiness, peace and love is their truth and to help them shine their light into the world.

With an intense sales job and busy work travel, I discovered yoga as a way to get grounded and find balance both physically and mentally. Initially it was the combination of flexibility and strength that had me hooked, yet over time the more subtle benefits of stillness, reflection, & relaxation have become the biggest surprise with the greatest rewards.
This personal journey led me to leave technology sales after 9 years, making a career change to follow passion and the life changing experience of teacher training with Silvia Mordini.I completed the Alchemy of Yoga Teacher Training in Summer of 2013.
I now teach yoga full time with regular classes at shefayoga, CorePower, Seattle Bouldering Project, Vertical World, as well as private corporate yoga classes. With the knowledge and understanding of how much yoga improved my work-life balance, I am inspired to bring more yoga to the workplace, reducing stress and helping others find more calm & clarity in their day. This goal lead me to co-found Yoga Reset, providing workplace yoga in Seattle. I believe in yoga for everyBODY, and teach for all levels to enable students to unplug, recharge, and restore to feel their best.
I developed my foundations in Anusara inspired Vinyasa Flow. I have also had extensive studies in the practice of Iyengar and therapeutic yoga. I received my 200 hour RYT Certification from my mentor, Silvia Mordini, then received a certification in Prenatal Yoga and later completed my Personal Trainer Certification through the AFAA.
I believe the practice of Yoga enhances and improves the quality of our lives. When our lives become more demanding, it is essential that we take time to nurture our minds and heal our bodies. I feel privileged to share the physical and mental benefits of Yoga with individuals from all walks of life.
It wasn’t until a friend dragged me into a yoga studio in 2011 that yoga finally truly found me, transforming my life in the most beautiful way and I haven’t looked back since. Yoga has not only changed my body physically (I couldn’t even touch my toes when I started!) but it has inspired and motivated me to live my life to the fullest. I have trained under a beautiful array of teachers, most notably receiving my 200-hour certification with Yoga Alliance under the loving guidance of Silvia Mordini and the Alchemy of Yoga tribe in Costa Rica. I am also a doctor of physical therapy, having extensively studied the human body and worked with ailments across the spectrum of young to elderly.
I have delved deep into the world of women’s health, studying it both as a physical therapist and yoga teacher, and am prenatal certified. My passion is to share the transformation using my extensive knowledge of the human body and goal coaching to work with you in achieving your highest potential for wellness and joy in all aspects of your life.
