Key Question: What Kind of Yoga do we Teach in Alchemy of Yoga Program?

In learning to teach yoga there is a delicate balance between consistency and creativity. One the greatest challenges we face as teachers is adapting Yoga to make it accessible for everyone in our class. The practice we offer students is for THEM, and about them as an act of service. Therefore in Alchemy of Yoga Teacher Training what I offer is our Alchemy Fundamental Series of 3 Class Plans based in Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Alchemy with supporting materials and inspirations to help your teaching be more consistent and comprehensive. This allows YOU to have both form and formlessness. It is not meant to be overly prescriptive, quite the contrary. These lesson plans hold space for you as a NEW Teacher to immerse yourself into the world of teaching with…

What is your emotional and mental health worth?

Super Namaste! Silvia here, Alchemy of Yoga Founder. Let’s get really real for a moment. What’s your emotional and mental health worth to you? If you had to put a dollar figure on this. What would it be? Of all the things you invest time and money in where are YOU on that list? Sadly, for most of us we prioritize the health and well-being of our car as more important than ourselves. That doesn’t make sense to me. Does it to you? As always I’m going to tell you the truth. This is not a rehearsal for a better life. THIS IS IT. You are not in a trial run. You’re not going to be able to trade in your body for a newer model. This one is it….

7 Benefits of Handstands

By Silvia Mordini Handstands are part of the Inversion family of poses. Inversions revitalize, detoxify, and nourish one’s entire system. Some of their benefits include reversing the effects of gravity on the body, improving circulation, and tonifying the digestive and eliminative systems. I highly encourage attending a Handstand workshop in your area to demystify what actions are necessary to enjoy a safe inverted practice. What will you learn? Through a thorough exploration of preparatory poses that strengthen the abdomen, increase flexibility of the spine and create stability in the arms and shoulder girdles, you will open specific areas of the body needed to safely practice inversions like handstands. A handstand workshop will provide you with many practical tools for starting to leave fear behind and let in the joy and…

Life is Full of Setbacks – How to Remove the Roadblocks to Your Happiness

by Silvia Mordini Dukha, the bad stuff, happens to everyone. We must stop feeding our stress phobia thinking we are trying to eradicate the bad stuff (fear, distrust, suffering, armoring, rigidity, contraction, defensiveness, aggressiveness, resentment.) The real obstacle to spiritual practice is thinking that to be happy we must be stress-free. Obstacles are not the problem. Life is full of setbacks, traffic jams, heartbreaks and roadblocks. It is our reaction and hostaging of energy that is the real block to our happiness. Learning how to stress successfully is the answer to staying Zen. Dukkha impacts us on all levels: 1. Physiologically – arises from overtaxing our nervous systems, constant fight or flight response. 2. Psychologically –this comes from a feeling of separateness. We withdraw to a point where we experience…

The Importance of Community in Yoga

by Silvia Mordini Truth: My favorite part of yoga is community. The coming together of humans of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, ages, interests to share the same experience. That’s why I go back everyday as a teacher and as a student. And science tells us that being in a healthy community is good for us. The vibration of positive minded people raises our vibrational frequency. This shared joy elevates our spirits and is talked about in Yoga Sutra Chapter 2.33 Pratipaksha Bhavana. Essentially the sutras spell out that if we are imbalanced mentally, physically, or emotionally then we are not living our true nature which is joy. Therefore engaging with others trying to think happy thoughts helps us create happy thoughts as well. Positive energy creates and attracts more positive…

7 Tips for New Yoga Teachers

By Silvia Mordini Back when I was a new teacher, none of the social media measurements had existed to pressure competition and comparison with other teachers. The second-guessing, worry and comparison of only adds stress to the very people trying to share this healing art. Anticipating that your next Yelp review will be a dud, or that your performance will be a disappointment is so disheartening. New teachers don’t deserve this pressure. Here are seven psychological and emotional pitfalls that stand in the way of genuine success in teaching yoga and how to overcome them: 1. Competition Stop torturing yourself by comparing yourself to other teachers status updates and fancy asana photos. Put an end to trolling Facebook and Instagram for reasons to be offended. Look to these outlets for…
