How Do You Wake Up?

“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet at last, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?”    “What’s for breakfast?” said Pooh. “What do you say, Piglet?”    “I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” said Piglet.    Pooh nodded thoughtfully. “It’s the same thing,” he said.”    How do you wake-up in the morning? Are you setting the tone of your day like Piglet encouraging a sense of wonder and excitement? Or are you like Winnie the Pooh: alert and curious (even it is about what you’re going to eat)?   In Ayurveda, the sister science to Yoga, our daily morning routine Dinacharya, outlines suggestions for how to begin your day from those first waking moments. My personal ritual is one that…

5 Ways to Promote STABILITY in Your Life

Be honest with yourself: do you crave chaos or stability?    Today, my answer is stability. My past addiction to chaos simply hurt me too much. I got sick of the constant mental TUG-O-WAR with myself.  I’m not interested in feeling impatient with one thought and having to pull or push at the next one. Impatience promotes chaos and doesn’t feel good.   The antidote to this is patience. Patience feels good. It feels like a return to mental stability no matter the chaos around us or what other people are thinking or doing. The ease of a patient mind brings about mental ease which promotes emotional equalibrium. Spiritual practice teaches us that balance is our natural state. We are meant to live from a stable foundation and inner stillness.  …

Why Do A Yoga Teacher Training in Bali? 3 Reasons to Take this Transformative Journey of a Lifetime

By Silvia Mordini “Growing is the most important and essential endeavor that a human being can undertake. You can make money, you can be promoted or demoted in the world. Never, at any stage, is there certainty about what will happen to you in this life. However, there is one thing nobody can ever take away from you-the growth you attain through your own search for Self-knowledge. Furthermore, this growth and understanding become the foundation that sustains you through any and all worldly difficulties, and that allows you-whatever the form of your physical experience- to find in life a continuously unbroken flow of total well-being.” — Swami Chetanananda I know choosing a Yoga School is hard. It’s a best guess effort since until you have the experience you can’t say “exactly”…

Fortify Jessie’s Future

“A healer is not someone that you go to for healing. A healer is someone that triggers within you, your own ability to heal yourself.” -Unknown. Hi, I’m Jessie. Last year I stepped out of my comfort zone to walk towards my work of supporting, encouraging and connecting with others on their journies of self-love, self-discovery and loving their authenticity. I have had the pleasure of working with incredible women in groups and private sessions. I know in every cell of my body that my next step is to become a yoga teacher, to offer another level in the work I am already doing and to reach a greater community of people. Over the last year, I have dedicated myself to an at home yoga practice, utilizing incredible free resources,…

Meditation for Prosperity

Meditation for Prosperity (Har Har) “This meditation can be done for up to 11 minutes. It is so powerful in bringing prosperity that more than 11 minutes would be greedy. This meditation stimulates the mind, the moon center, and Jupiter. When Jupiter and the moon come together, there is no way in the world you will not create wealth.” -Yogi Bhajan Posture: Sit in Easy Pose, with a light jalandhar bandh. Eyes: Focus at the tip of the nose, eyes are 9/l0th closed. Mudra: Elbows are by the sides, forearms are at a 45° angle, with the fingers at the level of the throat. The exercise begins with the palms facing down. Alternately strike the sides of the hands together. When the palms are face down, the sides of the Jupiter (index) fingers touch, and…

Moving with Intention: Consent and Gender in Yoga

With Tobias Wiggins, Alchemy of Yoga Trainee Sunday, June 24th, from 1:30 – 3:30 To have “intention” means to be mindful, to be attentive in our actions and to plot our course with a gentle deliberation. We often begin our yoga practice by setting intent – a simple thought to guide our movement, and to return to as a foundation. Interestingly, in medicine the word intention carries a different meaning. It is the process of closing a wound, and the restoration of health. In this workshop, we will explore this double meaning of intention in discussions surrounding the key topics of consent and gender, as they relate to yoga. Broadly, we will consider how trauma-informed feminist consent politics can deepen our practice and transform studio spaces, by using mindful touch…

I am Grounded

During this #Vata season of fall, you might be feeling uprooted and scattered. Take a moment to reset by doing the following meditation for 1-20 minutes. However long you feel is sufficient to SLOW DOWN your mind.Lay down on your yoga mat, bed or couch. If you are prone to falling asleep, sit up right when some support behind you. 1. Start by simply noticing your breath – depth, pace and quality 2. Begin lengthening your breath by being more intentional about reducing the speed in which you inflate and deflate your chest. 3. If you’d like to incorporate a 4-count inhale and exhale, that can allow for your mind to be distracted by the cadence of your #pranayama (breathing exercise). 4. Once you get into a steady rhythm, start…
