How To Find Balance Through Meditation

By Silvia Mordini Each day, I ask myself “How do I maintain balance in order to live my best day ever?” As much as I try to stay balanced, I have learned that I can easily lose it if I stop paying attention to it. Chanting, or using rhythmic speaking or singing of words and sounds is a great way to find and maintain balance. Om Namah Shivaya is my favorite mantras to practice. During and after singing this song I feel a quiet but energized sense of equilibrium. Om Namah Shivaya mantra uses the universal elements that govern each chakra: earth, water, fire, air, and ether. This song allows the chakras to better utilize the fundamental elements that exist in the chakra. When we repeat this mantra, we bring…

How To Form Healthy Habits That Will Last

by Silvia Mordini We all form habits as we go through life. When we realize that we are creatures of habit and that those very habits often keep us stuck in patterns we can finally begin to break unhealthy habits, only then can true spiritual growth begin. In order to change, we have to change something. When you look at what you want for your life direction, you may find that something has to change from the way you’ve been living. By consciously understanding which habits no longer serve you, then you are able to realize your best transformation. This is the basis of why a cleanse serves your best health. It renews your awareness of what you’re doing and not doing. If we want to develop healthier habits like…

What Is Meditation Like?

“My meditation is loud, so my life can be quiet” – Silvia Mordini If you met me you’d guess I’m an extrovert. In fact on the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator, I test out as an ESTJ (extroverted, sensing, thinking, judging). But really I’m an introvert. I like quiet time. I need it and always have. I don’t like loud malls or huge groups of loud people. I enjoy nature. And truth be told I need a good amount of solitude which fortunately has been part of my life whether I wanted it to be or not. The test isn’t wrong. I simply test almost in the middle barely to the “Extroverted” side so introversion is part of my nature too. I also have a inbred appreciation for the “art of…

Life is Full of Setbacks – How to Remove the Roadblocks to Your Happiness

by Silvia Mordini Dukha, the bad stuff, happens to everyone. We must stop feeding our stress phobia thinking we are trying to eradicate the bad stuff (fear, distrust, suffering, armoring, rigidity, contraction, defensiveness, aggressiveness, resentment.) The real obstacle to spiritual practice is thinking that to be happy we must be stress-free. Obstacles are not the problem. Life is full of setbacks, traffic jams, heartbreaks and roadblocks. It is our reaction and hostaging of energy that is the real block to our happiness. Learning how to stress successfully is the answer to staying Zen. Dukkha impacts us on all levels: 1. Physiologically – arises from overtaxing our nervous systems, constant fight or flight response. 2. Psychologically –this comes from a feeling of separateness. We withdraw to a point where we experience…

Morning Mantra: There Is No Need For Struggle

by Silvia Mordini “Through practice, I’ve come to see that the deepest source of my misery is not wanting things to be the way they are. Not wanting myself to be the way I am. Not wanting the world to be the way it is. Not wanting others to be the way they are. Whenever I’m suffering, I find this war with reality to be at the heart of the problem.” ~ Stephen Cope Instant peace and calmness came over me while I practiced reciting this mantra to myself: “There is no need to struggle.” Ask yourself right now, “Can I live with what life is offering me?” When we find neutrality in our mind, we let go of judgment about what is happening. We no longer fight against the…

Directing and Allowing: How to do Alternate Nostril Breathing

By Silvia Mordini “The art of living does not consist in preserving and clinging to a particular mood of happiness, but in allowing happiness to change its form without being disappointed by the change, for happiness, like a child, must be allowed to grow up” – Unknown author Today my meditation focused on what combination it takes of Directing and Allowing in your life to achieve ordinary happiness. To me it is like the Alchemy of Alternate Nostril breathing. The inhale is a directed effort, but then we allow the exhale to empty, and there is that pause at the end of the out breath that purifies that allowing. You must wait for it to occur for extraordinary change is within that pause. The yogic paradox is that at the…

Dear Stress, We’re Breaking Up

By Silvia Mordini Joy is our birthright say the Yoga Sutras. There is nothing natural about being stressed out ALL the time. Think of daily life as water filling up your favorite mug, as long as you keep the happenings of life a bit below the very rim you feel your best. If, however, the mundane stressors of life are keeping you full to the very top as soon as you experience an unexpected stress the mug will overflow. This situation can be prevented. I’m not saying we should avoid stress or get rid of it. This is impossible. Stress exists in every single change we experience such as getting a new job, a promotion, getting married, having a baby, moving into a new home. There is good stress. Rather…

Alchemy of Balance: Using Chakras and Chanting

Each day, I ask myself “How do I maintain balance in order to live my best day ever?” As much as I try to stay balanced, I have learned that I can easily lose it. Balance may be easy to find, but it is hard to sustain. This is because we are the only ones who can do the inner work of maintaining it. Francis Braceland writes, “We can be sure that the greatest hope for maintaining equilibrium in the face of any situation rests within ourselves.” So how do we find and maintain balance? I have discovered two tools: Chakras & Chant. Chakras The Chakras, which are the seven main energy centers in the body that receive, absorb and distribute life energies are a natural starting place. The Chakras…

How to Manifest Change in Your Life

“CHANGE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR YOURSELF: EXPECT THE BEST, EXPECT YOUR FORTUNES TO CHANGE, EXPECT A MIRACLE. REACQUAINT YOURSELF WITH THAT VISION.” Dr. Wayne Dyer  To manifest change, you have to change something yourself. A key change is your perception of yourself, shifting from seeing yourself as someone who sticks to the old and comfortable all the time, to now someone who likes to mix things up. Not all change is created equally. You can choose to mix gradual transformation along with immediate transformation. It can be helpful to think about making these shifts as though you are making them through water, and through fire. Let the alchemical elements inspire your process. Slow transformation is ruled by the Water element, 2ndchakra. Fast transformation is ruled by the Fire element, 3rdchakra. Some…
